Marketing and Management are at the core of every kind of business. Companies, Multi-national businesses, International Organizations, Non-profit organizations as well as government agencies need Marketing Managers who can solve problems, cross cultural barriers, and speak more than one international language.

What is the content of this programme?

In today's world, marketing and leadership are vital for all sectors of business: profit, non-profit and governmental. The main areas of work of the International manager are marketing and managing the import and export of goods and services. This must be understood in the broadest possible sense. While a career as a marketing manager, import or export manager, sales manager or a range of other management positions is certainly possible, the opportunities open to you do not stop here. After all, a museum that organises an international exhibition (of which the Netherlands has many) also operates on an international market. Non-profit institutions and public authorities are also potential employers for an International Marketing Manager. In other words, the focus is not merely on selling a product or service; it is about communicating with the client, identifying his needs, and responding to demands of markets in different countries, cultures and business settings. In order to communicate effectively, you will polish your English skills to the level of a near-native speaker and learn a second international language: Marketing Management offers instruction in French, Spanish English and German, taught by native speakers.

Businesses must think and act globally in order to compete on today's market so Marketing Management focuses on international business, as companies no longer concentrate solely on their local economies. Consider such questions as: how to analyze consumer behaviour, how to calculate cost price, how distribution and logistics can be optimized, how to communicate effectively with the target group, how to manage customer relations, how to utilize/optimize the supply chain and e-business, and how you as a manager can increase the competitive edge in your organization or business. With the growth of Internet and e-commerce, however, even the smallest of companies can have a global presence from day one. Once you have completed your studies you might even decide to join the long tradition of entrepreneurs who have set up their own businesses by developing new markets for new or existing goods and services. The Marketing Management programme aims to provide you with the knowledge, skills and strategic insight necessary to do so.

With the help of competence-driven education you will work on team assignments based on real business situations within a project group (5-7 students per group) in addition to your individual exams. Perhaps the most prominent unique selling point of the Marekting Mangement programme in The Hague is the fact that it is small scale and students are not merely a number. Students have ample personal contact with lecturers, tutors and a study coach.

The first two years focus on broad-based academic business learning and the application of theory to practical business situations. In order to become a polished professional, you will do a 6-month internship in year 3. You may do your internship in The Netherlands at one of the numerous multi-national companies, international organizations or NGO's, or abroad, or in your home country. In year 4 you will have 6 months of further academic instruction reserving the second half of the academic year to write your bachelor's thesis, ideally commissioned by business (profit, non-profit or governmental) and coached by your study advisor.

As a Marketing Management graduate, your future in business becomes a wide-open playing field. In fact, a global playing field. Some of the highest paying jobs and those high in demand in business (including non-profit or governmental sectors) are Marketing Manager, Product Manager, Purchasing Manager, Marketing Communication Manager, Client Services Manager and Account Managers in Advertising.
